Baja is the second largest town of the county, including a part of the Gemenc landscape protection area. The Danube and its arm, the Sugovica attracts fans of water sports, hiking, and fishing. Thousands of visitors get a taste of the Bajai fish soup and the regions wines at the fish soup festival and in the restaurants. Highly recommended is the downtown tour for visitors, which includes the Szentháromság (Holy Trinity) Square, City Hall, Bácska Cultural Palace, Sétáló (Walking) Street and Kálmán Tóth Square, Saint Peter and Saint Paul Parish Church, Monastery of Saint Anthony of Padua, Déri Park, Rókus Street, Statue of András Jelky, Synagogue, Greek Orthodox Parish Church of Saint Michael, Petőfi Island, Árpád-well, Halászpart (Fisherman’s Bank) and Memorial of István Türr. There are also various museums in Baja, the most significant is the István Türr Museum and the Baja Cultural Palace. Just like in Kalocsa, the town can be explored with the sightseeing train too. The little train, rolling on rubber wheels, is capable of transporting 54 adults or 72 children at the same time, and is available from spring till autumn daily between 10:00 and 18:00, departing at every top of the hour from the Tóth Kálmán Square. Journey time is about 35 minutes. Fans of an active vacation can surely find something for themselves. Bicycling, hiking, horse riding, fishing, hunting, cruising on the river, bathing and other water sports are all available. Of all the festivals of Baja, the biggest and nationwide known is the Bajai Fish Soup Festival, when the Bajai fish soup, already declared a Hungaricum, is cooked in thousands of kotliches. There is no celebration without fish soup in Baja. The Bácskai Gallop offers a real spectacle for visitors too. Theatre lovers will not be disappointed when visiting Baja, at the end of August every year open-air plays entertain the audience. In case, anyone longs for a good puzzle, the Zárkaland escape room in Baja is a perfect challenge for the whole family or for a group of friends. In addition there is an Adventure Park on the Petőfi Island for visitors.
